We are delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Shearer OBE, GAICD as Veracity Senior Counselor, Asia-Pacific. Michael will play an instrumental role in supporting Veracity’s clients and growing Veracity’s business in Japan, where he has lived and worked on and off for nearly three decades, most notably as British Consul-General for Western Japan.

Michael brings to Veracity a wealth of government and corporate experience, including in future-facing industries. He previously held senior executive roles at International SOS and at McLaren Racing & Applied Technologies in Singapore, where he was also the vice president of the British Chamber of Commerce. Michael’s diplomatic career included postings in Japan, the UK, South Africa, and Sierra Leone, where he developed substantial knowledge of mining issues. Michael has also worked in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the United States, and held senior roles at HSBC. He is a guest senior lecturer at Osaka’s Kansai Gaidai University and is fluent in Japanese.

“With his deep familiarity with Japan, his government experience, and his tenure as a technology sector executive, Michael has unique insight into the most pressing and consequential geopolitical challenges facing businesses today,” Veracity CEO Benjamin Weiss said. “He will be a tremendous resource for our clients in future-facing industries, and we are thrilled to have him on the Veracity team.”

Michael will split his time between Japan and Australia, working closely with Veracity’s Tokyo-based Senior Counselor, Dr. Noriko Endo, to support the growth of Veracity’s Japan business.

“The need for businesses–especially those in the Asia-Pacific region–to understand and resolve their geopolitical and other risks has never been more important,” Shearer said. “I look forward to working with Veracity’s highly impressive and diverse teams, advisors, and board to help develop insights, and impact for our regional and global clients.”
